Rudy Mozr departs Bay Olympic for professional opportunity in Europe

Bay Olympic Chair John O’Hagan has announced that Men’s Premier Team Head Coach Rudy Mozr will return to Europe to advance his coaching career.

O’Hagan said: “Rudy was accepted into a limited UEFA Pro-License course in Europe earlier this year. The programme runs for two years, and a condition is that participants must be part of a professional coaching setup in Europe. Whilst the timing is unfortunate for us, it is a fantastic opportunity for Rudy, and he goes with our full support. Rudy has made a great impact on our Club since his appointment in late 2022. He is meticulous and dedicated in his planning and execution and the improvement in players under his watch over the past 18 months is shown in the team’s performances so far this year. Players enjoy playing for Rudy and the sessions he runs.”

Mozr said: “I’ve absolutely loved my time at Bay Olympic, and it’s definitely bittersweet to say goodbye. We have an amazing coaching and management team for both the Premier and Development squads. We’re a close-knit group, passionate about the game and improving players. The executive team and all the supporters at the Club have been fantastic. The support I’ve received, especially during the tough times last season, has been incredible.

I’m really grateful for the opportunity I’ve had at Bay Olympic and plan to stay in close contact to help the Club in any way I can moving forward. I’ll never forget the memories we’ve made, from the highs of our victories to the lessons learned in our losses, and the laughs we’ve shared off the field. A huge thank you to all the staff, executive committee, club members, and of course, all my players for the support during my time here. Your dedication and passion have been truly inspiring, and I’m confident that Bay Olympic will continue to grow and achieve great things. I believe the team is in good hands under the new coaching staff and I’ll always be cheering you on and hope to see you all succeed in the seasons to come.”

With Mozr departing, Peter Smith has been promoted to the Head Coach position. Peter has been working with Rudy for many years and was previously head coach of WaiBOP in the former National League. Peter is also Director of Football at Mt Albert Grammar School. Peter will continue to be supported by James Pritchett and Jon Gwin, along with Alan Shaker and Dan Menzies who are leading the Development team. O’Hagan said: “With Rudy returning to Europe we are fortunate to have Peter ready and keen to step into the role. We look forward to Peter and the team continuing with the good start to season.”

The Bay Olympic executive, members and supporters wish Rudy, Jess and Luca all the best for this next step in their lives and look forward to witnessing their success in Europe.
